Physician Associate

Physician associates are clinical graduates trained in the medical model, having attended five years of university study learning clinical knowledge and skills.

They work alongside doctors and other healthcare professionals in practices, supporting and taking on roles themselves.

They run their own clinics in which they:

  • Diagnose patients

  • Treat and manage patient health

  • Read ECGs

  • Interpret chest X-rays and scans

  • Perform ward rounds

  • Cary out examinations

  • And more

The main difference between a physicians associate and a doctor is they are not yet able to prescribe medication.

Physicians associates supplement doctors, but do not take their role.
